Join us to build AFL and expand its charitable activities and combat the spread of HIV.
AFL is a non- profit organization and offers financial assistance to PLHIV to improve their nutrition and health status as well as their social life by providing assistance in helping with house rent, housing loan payments, tuition fees and school transport fare for their children who are also living with HIV/AIDS and also those who have escaped infection.

Saroja, is a young HIV infected mother of two children under the age of 5 years. Her husband is also HIV infected and is very frequently hospitalized with severe infections. She lives in a rented room in an overcrowded housing complex. She has no means of financial and social support and is solely dependent upon support from the AIDS Foundation Lanka. AFL provides her monthly rations and money for her house rent. A Board member of AFL provides Saroja financial assistance from personal funds. The Nursing Sister of the AFL visits her monthly to check on Saroja and her children.

Vasanthi is a young HIV infected single mother of two children attending Montessori. She receives dry rations and Montessori fees from the AIDS Foundation. She is finding it hard to seek employment because since the death of her mother she has lost the help of extended family to look after the children whilst she goes out to work.

Joseph is a fishmonger who receives an allowance to repay his Bank loan.

Shelton is a middle aged HIV infected man who is adopting a relative’s son. AFL has provided him financial support to continue his banana cultivation.

Anoja is a role model for all women, HIV+ or not. She is a mother living with HIV and her children are HIV positive too. She lives in the northern part of the country and cultivates cash crops, rears bees for honey amongst many other agricultural activities. At present she is helped with the repayment of loan facilities. She seeks further assistance for help with her activities.

Ranee is a grandmother who is a wayside seller. She has the burden of looking after her three grandchildren since the death of her daughter due to AIDS. One of the children are HIV infected. She gets assistance from AFL in the form of dry rations, house rent and tuition fees for the children.

Support for pregnant HIV infected women In addition to the above, AFL is providing “Maternity Kits” to pregnant HIV infected mothers which they need to have at the time of getting admitted to the hospital for delivery. Each kit is worth around Rs 6,000/- and consists of maternity ware for the mother, baby shirts and napkins, bed sheets, pillow cases, baby towels and blankets.

Kusum is a 25 year old woman living in the Southern Province who was found to be HIV positive during her antenatal check- up. She delivered her first born baby in November 2019. AFL provided her the “Maternity Kit” and a wardrobe as she had to stack the babies clothes on a table used to make tea.

Sarala is a 30 year old pregnant woman who came to Colombo alone as she was stranded by her drug addict husband. She was found to be HIV infected during the antenatal period. AFL is supporting her with financial assistance

There are 3 PLHIV organizations in Sri Lanka and the AFL assists these organizations to carry out their work.

During the COVID -19 period AFL has continued its support to people living with
HIV/AIDS by providing:
– Monthly nutrition foods
– Housing rent
– Bank Loan installments
– Purchasing vaccines for children during the short period where the
government immunization program was disrupted
– Maternity kits for 2 mothers who delivered during this period
– Financial assistance for those who were unable to continue employment
including self- employment
Please contact AFL if anyone is interested to join hands with AFL to support these families
